Installing Rayhunter

Supported Devices

Orbic RC400L / Kajeet RC400L (Americas)
TP-Link M7350 (Africa, Europe, Middle East)

SIM Card

Any Verizon pre-paid 4G/5G SIM card
Other brands should work, but I have not tested any personally.

It does not need to be activated. Rayhunter’s communication with IMSI catchers does not reach the authentication stage.

Setup

Download latest release: https://github.com/EFForg/rayhunter/releases
Open cover, install SIM card & battery, boot.
Factory reset, if desired: Hold reset for 5 secs while powered on.

Wifi credentials

Network: find by navigating menu on device.
Username: admin
Password:
- Orbic: password is found by navigating to Wifi options on screen
- Kajeet/Smartspot: $m@rt$p0tc0nf!g
- Moxee: Look under battery

Connect via Wifi

Verify by browsing to http://192.168.1.1 (Orbic) or http://192.168.0.1 (TP-Link)

Install

Orbic:

./installer orbic --admin-password 'mypassword'

TP-Link:

./installer tplink

The installer will tell you when it’s done, and reboot.

Use

Device screen should say “NO SERVICE”.
A thin green line at the top of display: No Stingray found.
Yellow/Orange/Red line: Stingray possibly detected(!)

Logs & more info

Connect to network from computer or phone as shown above
Browse to http://192.168.1.1:8080 (Orbic) or http://192.168.0.1:8080 (TP-Link)
(Ignore certificate warning if you get one - Rayhunter doesn’t have https)
